Kakinada: Addressing students and faculty members of the Jawaharlal Technological University (JNTU), Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman Prof. K.C. Reddy said that both the Government and private sectors have a greater role to play in current scenario when the economy is knowledge and technology driven.
Prof. Reddy also inaugurated the first floor of the Nagavali Hostel building on the varsity's campus here on Saturday.
He informed, "The Centre has made an allocation of Rs.85,000 crores for higher education in the 11th Five Year Plan. Various measures aimed at improving quality of higher education have also been taken."
"Higher education institutions have to gear themselves to meet the challenges and ensure that their purpose of benefiting society is served in one way or the other", Prof. Reddy added.
Prof. Reddy also observed that JNTU, despite having the potential, did not get its due in terms of funds and logistical support
JNTU Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao, Registrar V. Ravindra, JNTU Engineering College Principal E.V. Prasad and Vice-Principal B. Prabhakar Rao were present at the occasion.
