New Delhi: "The recent US elections has not only been a historic win for the elected Afro-American President Mr. Barack Obama, but also a win of marginalised section of the society", said Mrs. Meira Kumar, Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment today.
Mrs. Meira Kumar was interacting with a group of 27 students under the civic action programme conducted by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in the north-east.
The education excursion is a step by ITBP to make the girl students from the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh familiar with the rest of the country and to make them feel an integral part of the country.
With a view to instill national pride, security consciousness and to improve quality of life of the border population, various community welfare programme under the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) & Civic Action Programme (CAP) are being carried out in western, middle and eastern sectors of the Indo-China Border.
Excursion tours for students of border areas, various medical camps, veterinary camps, construction of roads & tracks, construction & repair of school buildings, bus stands, temples, ponds, bridges and plantation of trees are also being carried out.
In addition, lectures and classes are also being organized on subjects like Adult Education, Family Planning, Hygiene and Sanitation, Environment etc.
