Guwahati: In its recent developmental plan, the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) has said that it will set up a "Talking Book Library" for visually challenged students in the North Eastern states of the country to help them in listening to books in English and other regional languages.
As per the plan, the Talking Book Library will be well equipped with a compact disk recording studio that would make the learning process easier for visually challenged people of the region.
The NFB also proposes to provide skill development training to the blind for gainful employment.
"The funds would come from the NFB to impart computer-related and other skill development training to visually disabled students so that they can get gainful employment and be motivated to look for avenues of self-employment," said Vice-President (east zone) of the NFB, Mr. Imran Ali.
The NFB is also planning to set up a computerized Braille Press and Braille Library and a hostel for college-going-students here.
Mr. Ali has welcomed visually disabled students of the region to avail themselves of benefits under various programmes and schemes of the NFB.
The NFB is offering various scholarships, vocational rehabilitation and training programmes at residential training centres in different States, and housing loan schemes to students.
