New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that merely passing the National Eligibility Test (NET) will not be enough for appointment of Ph.D holders as teachers in higher education institutions.
From now on, all candidates will have to clear new centralised exams for registration in the Ph.D programme.
The move is in contrast to UGC's earlier decision in which it allowed non-NET Ph.D degree holders for appointment as teachers in higher education institutions.
The decision was taken in a meeting held on Wednesday and Thursday where the UGC gave its approval to the new norms.
Many universities across India have also put on hold their admission process to improve the quality of research study.
