| IIMC to reserve 27 pc seats for OBC candidates April 18, 2008 New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication will shortly be implementing 27 pc reservations for OBC students in a range of mass communication courses. After the implementation of Mandal Committee in the year 1990's, IIMC is perhaps the first Indian Institute to implement 27 pc quota on OBC candidates. Last time, in the year 1999-2000, IIMC followed such a reservation policy. This type of modification resulted out of the meeting came when the then executive body of the institute, under the chairmanship of Mr. Murari, former secretary in the Union government, declared that in order to ensure suitable OBC candidates in jobs, reservation in training courses should be considered essential. Speaking on the move, Dr. J.S Yadav, director of IIMC said, "For the implementation of reservation system the number of seats was also increased to 40 from 25 in Hindi journalism, English Journalism, advertising and public relations courses. Even after the reservation was withdrawn, the number of seats was not decreased". |
