Chandigarh to offer education to weaker sections

February 02, 2008

Chandigarh: In an attempt to further uplift the weaker sections, the Chandigarh administration is all set to provide education to them under its proposed 'Education City' plan.

Under the decision, economically weaker and the disadvantaged sections will be provided assistance and low-cost, quality education to those who cannot afford it, said an official spokesman in the city today.

Upcoming Education City is the multi institutional Education city at Sarangpur, which will cover an area of 130 acres. It is planned that wide-ranging courses including courses in hospital administration, engineering, bio-technology, pharmaceuticals, tourism, hospitality and industrial designing will be offered at the upcoming Education City.

In addition to individual campuses and hostel facilities for students, the Education City would also house a gymnasium, a sports complex, an auditorium and a commercial establishment.

It is expected that the State's Education City venture will act as a big platform to address the requirements of training candidates for high-technology sectors.
