Raipur: The Government of Chhattisgarh has decided to free nearly 1.6 lakh teachers from involvement in extra chores and activities which include Election duty, vaccination drive, census survey and other such activities as offered to them from time to time.
The Government took this decision after the Education Department recommended a proposal to free all Government school teachers from additional burden.
"The Chief Minister has accepted our contention that teachers should only be involved in teaching activities as any additional duty assigned to them adversely affects the studies of students," said Education Minister Mr. Ajay Chandrakar.
The state has about 1.6 lakh teachers who teach about 62 lakh students in 38,680 Government schools.
"This is the first time that a state in India has decided to take such a step for the betterment of children's education," Mr. Chandrakar added
"We found that most teachers could not take regular classes as they were repeatedly sent off for these duties. Since most of the students could not afford a private tutor, their studies were suffering," stated Education Secretary Nand Kumar.
Now, all such extra activities will be performed by the Adult Education Department, primary health care operatives and aanganbadi employees.
