Free English-medium education for Chhattisgarh tribal students

Chhattisgarh: The Government of Chhattisgarh has started a new scheme named "Udan" to provide free English-medium education for tribal kids.

125 students belonging to poor families and backward tribal communities have been enrolled for free education in noted schools of Raipur starting this academic session.

Students were selected for this scheme on the basis of performance in the screening test conducted by schools in tribal areas of Gariaband, Mainpur, Chhura and Devbhog in Raipur district and in Kawardha.

Students studying in classes I to VIII were eligible to participate in this test.

"This is the only scheme of its kind", claimed Sonmani Bora, coordinator of the scheme. He added, "Parents are enthusiastic that they can send their children to reputed schools in the state capital".

Also, 35 private English-medium schools have come forward to adopt five children every year under the scheme.

Along with free education, accommodation and food will also be provided to students.
