August 06, 2008

New Delhi: An Anti-Ragging squad has been constituted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to curb the menace of ragging in all forms at the institute's campus this year.

A team of about 100 faculty members will work in two shifts to bring an end to the annual tradition of ragging on campus.

Round-the-clock inspection will be carried out by members of the squad, especially around the areas, most prone to ragging including the men's and ladies hostel.

Members of the anti-ragging squad have been divided into two groups, which will work in two different shifts - 8 am to 8 pm and 8 pm to 8 am.

"It has been decided that with each fresher, there will be a resident doctor and a faculty member who will act as a guardian to the fresher. Any problem faced by the student will be reported to the respective guardian", said, Dr. D.K. Sharma, AIIMS Medical Superintendent.

An anti-ragging control room number has been provided to all freshers. The control room has been setup in room no.13 of the Hostel Office opposite Hostel No.7 in case students want to report any incidents of ragging.

A PCR Van will be stationed outside the hostel gates. Security personnel have also been deployed in plain clothes in and around the campus.

The anti-ragging squad will be active till the fresher's party, which is expected to be organized in the mid of September.

Around 50 students have taken admission in the MBBS course this year, the session for which started on August 1, 2008.
