New Delhi:
Delhi University (DU) has announced a donation of Rs.20 lakhs to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the flood victims in
Bihar.
The varsity has also sent a delegation from the Department of Social Work (DSW) to the flood-affected areas in
Bihar.
The delegation would distribute infant food, milk powder, biscuits, torches, candles, chlorine, tablets, oral rehydration solution (ORS) and tarpaulin sheets to the flood-affected people in
Bihar.
The team will coordinate with other agencies at the district and state levels. For this purpose, the Department has also established helpline numbers (9868894883 and 011-32021499) for the flood victims.
The
Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) is planning to appeal to all teachers to donate their one day's salary for the rehabilitation of flood victims.
The All India Students' Association (AISA) has also launched a fund-raising campaign to collect funds for flood relief in
Bihar.
"The AISA activists at
Delhi University,
Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia have already started the fund raising campaign. A 10-member team of students from these three universities will go to
Bihar for flood relief operations," said AISA national general secretary Ravi Rai.
While, around 28 percent students at
JNU hail from
Bihar and
Jharkhand, at DU, the figure stands at around 30 percent.
Over 2.5 million people in 1,598 villages spread over 15 districts have been affected by the floods in
Bihar.
The floods have claimed 35 lives, including 20 people who died on Friday when the boat they were travelling in, capsized in Madhepura district.
