Community learning centre to generate employment for slum youth

New Delhi: A Community Learning Centre (CLC) has been set up in Tughlaqabad area of south Delhi to generate employment opportunities for youths in slums areas of Delhi.

The centre will offer training programmes in basic English communication, grooming and etiquette, basic computer and operating system skills, knowledge of industry sector and industry specific skills.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the centre on Friday which has been set up in association with NIIT, a computer training company and NGO ABHAS.

The NIIT CLC will provide relevant skills to youth in urban slums for making them employable for jobs in various industry sectors such as retail, automobile sales, telecommunications, hospitality and healthcare.

"The centre will offer training programmes of three months to one year duration for 10th and 12th pass students, residing in urban slums and semi-rural areas," Rajendra S. Pawar, Chairman, NIIT said.

NIIT plans to set up 20 such CLCs in the next three years. IANS
