Court lifts recruitment bar on four Delhi colleges

New Delhi: Four Delhi colleges, including Ramjas and Daulat Ram, can go ahead with recruiting teachers after the Delhi High Court on Thursday lifted a stay on new appointments, with the rider that they would have to first fill up the three percent seats meant for disabled candidates. A division bench of Justices T.S. Thakur and Siddharth Mridul, while vacating the stay, asked the institutes to abide by the Disability Act in future too.

The recruitment of teachers in Ramjas College, Daulat Ram College, Lakshmibai College and Shaheed Rajguru College for Applied Science for Women can now be held.

Some colleges had said that despite placing advertisements in newspapers they had failed to get adequate response from disabled candidates.

The court asked the university registrar to prepare a list of colleges that are ready to provide three percent of vacancies for disabled candidates.

The stay on the recruitment of teachers was slapped a year back following a public interest petition seeking implementation of the law on quota for disabled candidates.

The court April 4, 2007, restrained Delhi University and all its affiliated colleges that failed to provide three percent reservation for disabled candidates, from recruiting faculty members. IANS
