New Delhi: Hearing a petition filed by Counsel Ashok Agrawal, the Delhi High Court has asked Delhi Government to appoint special teachers at city schools to cater to the needs of disabled students.
In his petition, Agrawal has alleged that differently-abled students are suffering because of lack of facilities and teachers in government schools.
He also stated that regular schools did not have adequate infrastructure for such students forcing them to go and study in special schools. The petition sought an infrastructure in every school that will make it disabled-friendly.
A bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Manmohan said, "Every school must have a special educator. We want you to appoint as many regular teachers as needed. The teachers should be appointed on a permanent basis and their salary must be at par with the regular teacher.''
Assuring the HC, the Government has said that 50 such teachers have already been appointed and more would be recruited in the coming days.
Not satisfied with the reply, the court wanted to know about the steps taken by the government.
The petition also stated that mapping of the children should also be done to know which category they belong to so as to cater to their needs.
