| Leading Law firms hiring DU Students March 14, 2008 New Delhi: The Campus Law Centre (CLC) of Delhi University has invited Over 200 recruiters this year to participate in the placement process for recruiting the future lawyers. This year, dozens of global legal process outsourcing companies (LPOs) and corporate firms are taking part in the recruitment process and offering lucrative offers to DU Law students. So far, 24 LPOs and corporate firms have come to the campus and have recruited 25 students; the highest package Delhi University offered is about Rs. 5 lakh per annum. The average students are being offered somewhere between Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 20,000 per month. Moreover, CLC put together all the placements procedures while inviting the traditional litigation firms. "Till last year, we usually had to rough it up to find a beginning but now recruiters like Wadia & Ghandhi, Amarchand Mangalam, DSK Legal, ICICI Lombart, MMTC are coming to us", said Anirban Bhattacharya, member of the placement cell. Also this time, CLC got detailed brochures published which were then sent to different Indian and international recruiters. Students were asked to submit their resumes, of which 70 were short-listed for the recruitment process which commenced on Wednesday. "We cannot match up to IIMs but we have made a humble beginning. There is competition in the market and we are just exploiting that", said Alka Chawla, director of the re-organized placements cell. According to one of the recruiters, Gide Loryette Nouel from France, "International companies are entering into India big-time. So they need lawyers to legally safeguard their business in the country". He further added that, "UK-based firm also indicated on taking interns from CLC but that could not be actualized as their recruitment process was already over. " This is one lesson we learnt for the first-time. From next time we will keep the recruitment cycle of international firms in mind". |
