MCD drives thalassaemia control project for school children

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a drive to check Thalassaemia among students at its school.

Under this scheme, all students will be examined at the time of admission.

Thalassaemia is a genetic disease which occurs due to fault in RBCs.

Anemia control programme has already been run by the civic body at its school.

"Children who are found with hemoglobin around six will be checked for thalassaemia also, as chances of suffering from thalassaemia increases in such circumstances," said V. K. Monga, Chairman, Public Health Committee, MCD.

In addition to Thalassaemia and anemia control programme, the civic body will also launch awareness programme for school children and their parents under School Health Scheme.
