New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today honoured 212 meritorious students of Government schools who scored 90 percent and above in the Class 10 and 12 examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) this year.
"We are all proud of the meritorious students who are bound to become great personalities and contribute in nation building," Dikshit said.
The Chief Minister also complimented teachers and educational administrators for their role in preparing students and imparting quality education to them.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal, Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, senior officials of the Delhi Government and eminent persons from various sections of the society were present on the occasion.
Dikshit also announced that the Government will provide world class training to budding sportspersons to enable them to win maximum medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG).
"The Government will provide world class training to its students and sportspersons to ensure that they are able to compete effectively in the 2010 CWG," Dikshit said after unfurling the national flag at a function organised to mark the Independence Day at the Chhatrasal Stadium here.
The CM also honoured Manoj Vats, an Indian Navy mountaineer, and presented him with Rs.51,000, a memento and citation.
Vats was in the navy's expedition to the North and South poles. Dikshit also awarded medals to four NCC cadets.
