Smoking cessation centre at DU soon - Ramadoss

New Delhi: Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday reiterated that India should not only be smoke-free but also comprehensively tobacco free.

Addressing a gathering of Delhi University (DU) students, he praised the efforts of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) to make the varsity campus 'smoke free'.

Pointing to Chandigarh administration's decision to go smoke-free, Ramadoss said that Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit was committed to make the national capital "smoke free" before the Commonwealth Games 2010.

The Health Minister reiterated the UPA's decision to completely ban smoking in all public places as well as private buildings.

He promised that a smoking cessation centre would be operational on the campus within a month's time.
