New Delhi: The Central Government in the 11th plan period has allocated Rs.100 crore for setting up 20 IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology) in various parts of the country through public private partnership (PPP).
The information was given by Rajeeva Ratna Shah, Member Secretary, Planning Commission, on Thursday on the second day of Focus 2007, organised by ASSOCHAM.
"Industry associations would have to come forward with a blue-print for the proposed IIITs and the Government would not encourage any particular industrial house to take initiatives," Shah added.
Mr. Shah also said that all policy decisions were approved at the meeting of the National Development Council (NDC) held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
The Government is also hopeful of providing broadband accessibility to almost every citizen in the country, covering 97 per cent of its geographical area latest by 2012.
The allocated fund will be spent on various skills oriented education relating to nano IT/computing, bio-IT/computing, information security, telemedicine, telebanking and finance.
A part of the allocation in which education would be imparted will be shared among associate industries which have a clear cut vision for the plan.
