For many engineering aspirants, getting into the prestigious Delhi College of Engineering, popularly known as DCE is a big dream, but now students at DCE have disclosed that they are not even being provided basic amenities they need on campus.

Students say, DCE authorities appear to be least concerned about repeated complaints related to mess food and poor hygienic conditions. "Individually, we have filed several complaints and informed the concerned heads about our grievances, but nobody takes it seriously," claimed a student from DCE.

Students also point to the fact that some hostels do not have television facilities and thus, students are unable to get the daily news updates. As regards basic amenities, one of the floors does not have a water cooler, thus causing inconvenience to students. The balconies are broken and any such task takes a long time to repair," added another student.

As regards medical facilities, students are left with no option but to depend entirely on private doctors. "There is a huge area allotted to the campus hospital, which is hardly of any help. Either the medicines aren't available and if at all they are, their have usually expired. Thus, we have no choice but to consult private doctors. Though there are facilities available for emergency, but hardly any, for basic needs," informed another DCE student.

Students have now decided to take the matter to related committee heads and hostel wardens. "We will be meeting soon to have an open discussion with all the wardens and other concerned members of the committees," says another student.

However, A. Bhattacharya, principal, DCE, who has joined the college a week ago, stated that students have not communicated any such grievances to him. "I would certainly address the students' grievances, if any, and they are welcome to come and talk to me," says the Principal.
