No letter from the NCERT yet - Goa Board

July 05, 2008

Panaji: Chairman of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE), Mr. Bhaskar Naik has said that he has not received any letter from the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) seeking clarification over the withdrawal of Hindi and History textbooks.

Some section of the media reported that the NCERT on Thursday had sent a letter to the Goa Board demanding an explanation as to why the History and Hindi textbooks for class 10 were withdrawn.

Bowing to criticism by parents and local organizations that the textbooks were full of typographical & grammatical errors which could misinform students, the Goa Board had withdrawn the History and Hindi text books for class 10.

Parents alleged that the Marathi translation of the History textbook had several grammatical and typographical errors.

Goa witnessed a widespread public outrage over this issue, which forced the Government to convene a high level meeting for discussing the matter.

"So far, till Friday evening, I have not received any letter asking clarification over withdrawing the two textbooks", Mr. Naik confirmed.
