Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has suggested that Australian High Commission officials in New Delhi should talk to the worried parents to reassure the safety of their wards in that country in the wake of alleged racist attacks on Indian students there.

In a letter addressed to External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vyalar Ravi, Modi said the officials of the high commission officials need to travel across the country, including towns and cities of Gujarat, to discuss possible solutions to the issue with the parents who have sent their sons and daughters to study in Australia.

Nearly 93,000 Indians students study at various universities and institutions in Australia. At least six students faced serious attacks last month.

There are over 4,000 Gujarati students studying in different Australian colleges. Among the Indian students who faced attacks in Australia was one from Ahmedabad.

The Gujarat chief minister had also urged the external affairs minister to ensure the safety of Indian students in Australia.

Modi has asked the students from Gujarat studying in Australia to contact him any time for help if needed. IANS
