CBI raids law college in Haryana
Panchkula, Haryana: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths on Tuesday raided the Swami Devi Dyal College of Law at Barwala, around 15 km from here, and the residence of its owner, over alleged irregularities in the institute's affiliation process, officials said.

"Few days back, we had received a complaint highlighting gross irregularities in the affiliation given to the law college of the Swami Devi Dyal group. On the basis of that complaint, we registered a case and conducted these raids today," CBI Zonal Director Mahesh Aggarwal told the sources.

"The raid is still on and we are going through all records of this college. We will also seize certain documents for scrutiny," he added.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, CBI officials raided the residence of M.L. Jindal, the owner of Swami Devi Dyal group of professional institutions, in Manimajra town near Chandigarh.

Swami Devi Dyal College of Law was established in 2007. The college offers three-year and five-year law courses. It is located in Barwala in Panchkula district, some 30 km from the state capital Chandigarh.

Swami Devi Dyal group's vice president Ashok Jindal told the sources, "In the morning, CBI officials first came to the house of the owner of the group. They searched all the documents, but when they did not find anything substantial, they went to the college.

"We do not know the exact reason behind this raid, but we think that it is related to the affiliation of the college. Few months back, a government official had come here to our law college to conduct survey and evaluation for the purpose of affiliation. Then, we got the news that he was arrested by police for possessing extra money and income."

Swami Devi Dyal group runs institutes offering courses in engineering, pharmacy, management, medicine, education and hotel management. IANS
