Chandigarh: Haryana has decided to double the number of seats in technical courses of the state's polytechnic institutes to 50,000 to meet the demand for skilled technical personnel.

Technical Education Minister A.C. Chaudhary said here on Thursday that the government was even open to the idea of allowing private institutes to run technical courses provided they follow the norms.

"No compromise on quality will be allowed. We want technical education to be as per the international demand," Chaudhary said.

The minister said that with increased investments in the state, the demand for skilled technical personnel is going to increase in the future.

He said the government had increased the technical education budget this year from Rs.290 million to Rs.1.5 billion.

Haryana presently has 57 engineering colleges, 83 polytechnic institutes and over 150 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). IANS
