Shimla: Following Union Finance Minister P. Chidambram's announcement for opening a Central University and an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister of state Mr. Virbhadra Singh has declared the proposed sites for setting up of these two institutes in the state.
Mr. Singh said the proposed Central University would come up in Kangra, while the IIT would be set up in Mandi district.
"The district administration of the two districts had been directed to locate a suitable site for the two projects. While there is a requirement of 500 acres for the Central University, a chunk of 300 acres would have to be identified for the setting up of the IIT," Mr. Singh told media persons.
The Chief Minister is also hopeful that the place and site to be identified as soon as possible and foundation stone should be laid well before the upcoming state assembly election in February next year.
The state government is also keen on launching some mega projects on health and education within next 2-3 months.
