Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) would be soon connected with the National Knowledge Network, Union Minster of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot said here on Sunday.

Speaking at the concluding function to mark the 42nd foundation day of the university, Pilot said: "HPU would be a part of Rs.5,990-crore National Knowledge Network project. So far only seven institutions in the country are connected with the project."

He said the aim of the project is to bring together all stakeholders from science, technology, higher education, healthcare, agriculture and governance on a common platform for advancing human development.

Assuring Vice Chancellor A.D.N. Bajpai of all help from his ministry, Pilot said his ministry would provide any help needed for development of infrastructure.

Pilot also said the ministry plans to provide Internet facility in all the 2.5 lakh panchayats in the country. IANS
