Now, highest CAT score may not help secure an IIM seat
Mumbai: The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), after the much talked over row of Common Admission Test's (CAT) online launch has come up with a plan to overhaul student's selection process by lowering the weightage for the score obtained in CAT.

Lowering the weightage would mean that the IIMs, like that in Kozhikode, which fully entrusted its admission criteria based on highest CAT scores (90 points) would now settle for just 50.

A senior from IIM-Kozhikode faculty announced that, "We plan to revamp the admission criteria. From now, the performance of students in class X and XII, apart from their work experience would be given importance."

He further added that, the decision bears no connection with the technical glitches that lead to much chaos last year.

"The change was mulled from the past two-three years and have finally settled to bring down the CAT weightage to 50 points this year."

With the advent of the next admission season, the IIM Bangalore has decided to go on the lines of IIM Ahmedabad.

Doing away with the group discussions, IIM-Bangalore has announced that the candidates should be prepared for essay writing, something that IIM-A started way back in 2007.

"Thirty minutes would be granted to the candidates to reflect upon current issues like political, economic and business affairs and write their opinion. Topics like sports and others, which require a creative thinking can also be included," said an IIM-B official.

IIM-A didn't disclose its selection process in detail last year.

Sources in IIM-Calcutta said the selection process was likely to remain unchanged.

The new IIMs expected to start this academic year are yet to take any decision on the selection procedure.
