| 30 pc hike at IIT JEE - 2008 April 14, 2008 Kolkata: One of the most prestigious exams in the country IIT-JEE, held on Sunday attracted 3.2 lakh students across the country-an increment of 30% over the last year's 2.5 lakh figure. Keeping into account the growing requirements for quality engineering graduates, the government is also planning to set up more IITs. Three new IITs at Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Rajasthan would soon be operational. Each of the IITs is expected to admit 200 students. Speaking on another development-the issue of OBC reservation, Mr. A.K. Ghosh, the Chairman, JEE, IIT Kharagpur, said "The details of OBC reservation are still to be decided on. Our institute wanted to maintain the same number of students as last year, but if 27% OBC reservation is implemented, obviously the seats will go up. However, we are not clear about this yet". |
