Kota: The IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) coaching institutes at Kota disapprove of the stand taken by the government to raise the current eligibility cut-off of 60 percent in Class XII for IIT aspirants.
Their disapproval does not stem from the reason that it will diminish their business but, because they consider it as 'an un-thoughtful act'.
Mr. Navin Maheshwari, Director (Admn), Allen Career Institute, has a valid reason to put across to the authorities.
Questioning the basic board education system, he says, "How can you expect a student from a state board school to be par with that of a public school student? Before raising the eligibility criteria for the IIT aspirants, there is a need to uniform the platform at which the eligibility standard of the students is evaluated."
Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal's bid to get rid of professional coaching for medical and
engineering exams has also been vehemently opposed by Mr. Maheshwari.
According to him, the coaching business is blooming because it is practically impossible for a simple school-going student to crack the IIT-JEE entrance exam purely by himself.
"Looking at the last year's IIT-JEE cut-off percentage will make the picture sharper - it is a sheer score of 37.08 per cent!", exclaims Maheshwari.
Adding further, he said that this score could jump leaps and bounds once the government is ready to ask the IIT aspirants Class XII questions in the IIT-JEE.
