Perth: The University of Western Australia (UWA), one of Australia's leading research-intensive universities, has announced fee-waiver scholarships for Indian students aspiring for an academic experience in Western Australia.
"The India Scholarships applications are now open and would close by 17th October, 2008. These scholarships are available for study commencing in 2009", a UWA official said.
Indian applicants who have a guarantee of support for a living allowance from an Indian government department, Indian University, employer or other recognized organization in India may apply for a fee waiver scholarship to undertake a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at the varsity.
The fee waiver scholarship will cover all tuition fees, as well as Overseas Student Health Cover. Faculties and schools may top-up the Indian living allowances if they fall marginally short of the minimum UWA living allowance.
To apply for an India Scholarship for International Research Fees (Indian SIRF), applicants must:
- Be citizens of India.
- Have a guarantee of living allowance support for the duration of the scholarship period from a recognized Indian organization such as a government department, university or employer.
- Demonstrate English language proficiency to an acceptable standard
- Have completed a relevant undergraduate degree requiring at least four years of study with First Class Honours, or the equivalent.
- Be prepared to enroll as a full-time candidate for a higher degree by research.
The duration of the scholarships is up to two years for Masters Courses and up to four years for PhD courses. Successful applicants will normally be expected to start their PhD study program at UWA within 12 months of the scholarship being awarded.
