Jammu: The Central University (CU) Jammu now has it's first vice chancellor.

After having been delayed for more than six months, Amitabh Mattoo has been appointed the first vice chancellor of Central University of Jammu.

The selection of the VC had been delayed because a section of people from the state had demanded that the position be given to a local educationist. A agitation had also been launched against Mattoo, who has held the post of the VC of Jammu University in the past.

The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry had put the appointment of the vice chancellor for the central varsity on hold and the commissioning of the university for one season had also been delayed.

However, the appointment of Mattoo as the VC was finally approved by President Pratibha Patil. He is expected to join at the VC in a week's time as well as ensure that other staff members are appointed to begin commissioning the university.

Amitabh Mattoo currently teaches at the School of International Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
