JK Govt sanctions Rs.43 crores under SSA in Kargil district
Srinagar: The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has sanctioned Rs.43 crores for the development of infrastructure for the success of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in the Kargil district.

The sanctioned amount will be utilized to construct school buildings, additional class rooms, opening of new schools and up-gradation of schools in the district.

75 new primary schools, 78 Education Guarantee Centres (EGC), 56 Cluster Resource Centres and 19 computer Block Resource Centres have been established in the district so far. 143 primary schools and 78 EGCs have been upgraded to the level of middle and primary schools respectively.

653 Rehbar-e-Taleem (RT) teachers, education volunteers and other required staff have also been engaged under the programme.

160 primary school buildings, 19 middle schools and 35 block resource centres have been constructed under SSA in the district. In addition to providing drinking water and toilet facilities, 217 additional class rooms have also been constructed.

An amount of Rs.8.30 crores has been utilized under the Prime Minister's package for construction of 11 higher secondary and high school buildings in the district.

Under the programme, additional classrooms have been constructed in six high schools.

94 schools of the district are being provided drinking water facilities by the end of this year under the centrally sponsored scheme. An amount of Rs.1.36 crores has been earmarked for this purpose.
