JK varsity VC nominated knowledge commission member

Jammu: Vice chancellor of Jammu University Amitabh Mattoo has been nominated as a member of the National Knowledge Commission.

The order to nominate Amitabh Mattoo as member of the commission was issued by the Planning Commission after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's approval, a release issued on Tuesday by the university said.

"This is a prestigious part time honorary position," the release said.

The National Knowledge Commission is a high level advisory body to the prime minister created with the objective of transforming India into a knowledge society.

The commission, headed by Sam Pitroda, includes Ashok Ganguly, P. Balaram, Jayati Ghosh, Deepak Nayyar, Nandan Nilekani and Sujatha Ramdorai.

The commission coordinates with various union ministries and the state governments and reports directly to the prime minister. IANS
