Jammu University starts regional campus at Poonch

Jammu: There is good news for the students of Poonch District in Jammu & Kashmir. The University of Jammu has opened its regional campus at Poonch, about 300 km from here.

Jammu University had so far established five regional campuses at various parts of the state and Poonch became the sixth regional campus of the varsity only on Friday. The campus was inaugurated by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in the presence of university vice-chancellor Amitabh Mattoo.

The aim of setting up campuses at various parts of the state is to provide higher education to students from far-flung areas at their doorsteps.

Speaking on the occasion, Azad said the path of reconciliation adopted by India and Pakistan was in the best interests of people of the two countries.

The JU vice-chancellor Amitabh Mattoo said more courses especially with high demand in job market would be introduced in the Poonch campus. All sections of the society including intellectuals, students and professionals have welcomed the move.
