Jammu: The appointment of the first vice chancellor of the Central University-Jammu here is likely to be announced in the next couple of days, officials here said on Sunday.

The union human resource ministry in consultation with the state government has reportedly selected someone from Jammu as the first vice chancellor, informed government.

They said the ministry was waiting for the return of President Pratibha Patil from her foreign tour, and now that she is back, the file would be sent to her for approval on Monday, the sources said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah spoke to Human Resource Minister Kapil Sibal on the issue early this week and was assured that the appointment would be made soon.

Some groups in Jammu had launched an agitation for the early appointment of a vice chancellor, and insisted a local person be chosen for the post. IANS
