Srinagar: The People's Democratic Party (PDP), an ally to the ruling UPA government in Jammu and Kashmir, today, appealed to the authorities to work towards speedy establishment of a Central University in the state.

Urging the authorities for concrete actions in this regard, a PDP statement today said: "The establishment of central university in the state as announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a welcome step. Now measures should be taken to establish the varsity in the valley at the earliest."

The proposed Reliance Institute of Information Technology should also be set up soon as it will help the state meet the technological challenges in the present scenario; the statement further said.

Furthermore, PDP highlighted that the establishment of the two institutions- the Reliance Institute and the Central University in the valley would be a big boost to the younger generations in the state.
