PM may address first convocation of Vaishno Devi university

Jammu: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to address the first convocation of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University near here later this month, officials said on Friday.

According to a tentative schedule, Manmohan Singh would visit the university March 24, University officials said.

The university near Katra, about 40 km from here, was set up in August 2004 and has several professional courses including IT and MBA.

The convocation will be held in the newly constructed state-of-the-art auditorium in the university, which is located in the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas.

The prime minister last visited Jammu in July 2007 when he addressed a special convocation of Jammu university and was conferred an honorary doctorate. IANS
