Ranchi: An examination to recruit 8,700 primary school teachers in Jharkhand was conducted peacefully on Sunday amid tight security following a threat from a tribal organisation.

The district administration made foolproof security arrangements as the Adivasi Moolvasi Janadhikar Manch (AMJM) had threatened to disrupt the examination. Commandos of the Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) were deputed at the examination centres.

About 45,000 candidates appeared for the exam. In Ranchi, the examination was conducted at 121 centres.

Satisfied with peaceful conduct of the examination, Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairman Dileep Kumar said: 'We will try to come out with the results soon.'

The AMJM had given a shutdown call, demanding cancellation of the examination and formulation of a domicile policy on the basis of the 1932 land records.

In 2002, the Jharkhand Government had come out with a domicile policy, providing domicile certificates to only those people whose fathers' or grandfathers' names appear in the land record of 1932. However, the High Court had struck down the policy. IANS
