Kerala to increase working days in academic institutions

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is planning to increase the number of working days in academic institutions, state Education Minister M.A. Baby said here on Thursday.

"We will ensure that educational institutions are not given a holiday when a past education minister dies. Even now the number of working days in a year in educational institutions here is appallingly low when compared to other states," Baby told reporters here.

The minister's remarks came as an English daily here assessed the performance of the two-year-old Left Front government and its ministers, and named Baby as the "worst performing" minister.

He also said that the state government does not wish to interfere in the recruitments made in government-aided educational institutions.

"But we will ensure that general guidelines are issued for it," said Baby.
