Former IIM professor appointed Indian Law Institute director

New Delhi: A former professor with the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, and environment law expert D.S. Sengar was on Thursday appointed director of the Indian Law Institute, a deemed university, whose ex-officio president is the chief justice of India (CJI).

According to an official statement, Sengar was appointed to the post by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan for a period of five years. He takes over from S. Sivakumar, the officiating director.

Sengar has more than 27 years of academic, administrative and professional experience at various prominent institutions in the country and overseas.

He holds a doctoral degree in law from the University of Lucknow and has done post-doctoral research in the area of Environmental Law at the University of Calgary, Canada. He was a senior Fulbright Fellow at the George Washington University.

The Indian Law Institute, Delhi, was founded in 1956 primarily with the objective of promoting and conducting legal research. The union law minister and the attorney general are its ex-officio vice presidents. IANS
