Bhopal: Madhaya Pradesh (MP) has introduced a new scheme for improving its academic performance. About eight lakh students of Class X and XII from government schools will get a chance to evaluate their own half-yearly examination papers.
After completing the three hours long exam, they will get a lunch break of 30 minutes and for the next three hours, they will be writing down model answers and evaluation scheme depicting how to assign marks.
Only a very few MP students secure marks as high as 90%, the cutoff for many institutions. Therefore, they lag behind in competition from students of other states.
PR Tiwari, the State Academic Coordinator of Directorate of Public Instructions said that the self-evaluation will make students aware where they score less after assessing their own answers and knowing how the marks are given.
Teachers will re-evaluate the sheets and the marks given by them will be final. Students will use red ink while teachers will use green ink for marking.
This practice will be repeated thrice before the board examinations. By that time, it is hoped that students would have got a complete idea of examinations, marking scheme and prepared themselves accordingly.
However, few teachers are against the move saying that it will require students to stay in the school for long period during exam time. In this way, students will have less time to prepare themselves for the next paper.
