Bhopal: Faced with a shortage of teachers in rural areas, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to avail of the services of retired teachers, officials said on Wednesday.

A state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan decided the subject-wise appointment of retired teachers for teaching work in rural schools from Classes 1 to 12.

This decision has been taken in view of shortage of teachers in rural schools, said an official of the government.

As per the decision, physically and mentally fit retired teachers will be appointed. The age of the retired teacher can be up to 70 years.

There are various conditions for the appointment of retired teachers and if a retired teacher is unable to continue teaching due to health reasons, his appointment may be cancelled by giving a one-month's advance notice and or he can get relieving order by surrendering a month's salary. IANS
