Mumbai: Verdict of the controversial 90:10 quota issue is to be delivered by the Bombay High Court today. The State Government has recently passed out a resolution to reserve 90pc seats for students from state board.
After the state government's resolution, many students and parents' groups moved court to contest and support it.
The government has taken this decision keeping in view the number of students.
"We have around only 17,000 students from different boards, including ICSE and CBSE, as opposed to 2.7 lakh from the SSC board," said a government official.
"If the resolution comes into effect it will be difficult for us to secure a seat in top colleges," said an ICSE board student.
"We are fighting for the decision to come in our favour," said V. K. Wankhede, Deputy Director of school education.
Arundhati Chavan, President Parents Teachers Association (PTA), who favours quota, said, "We have already filed an intervention against ICSE schools' petition. We will move to the Supreme Court if decision does not come in our favour."
"We have already consulted our lawyer on taking the case ahead in case of an unfavourable ruling," added Arundhati Chavan.
Nevertheless, the association of ICSE schools has not decided on its next move. "We are waiting for the judgement and haven't made any contingency plan yet," said Perin Bagli, secretary of the Mumbai ICSE schools' association.
