Mumbai: Lord Meghnad Desai, professor emeritus at the London School of Economics, will deliver the annual convocation address of the Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), an official said here on Tuesday.

On the occasion, he will interact with the faculty and students of TISS.

A learning centre for the visually challenged students will be launched at the campus to mark the event.

The centre, located in Deonar in central Mumbai, will provide independent text reading facility. Earlier, visually impaired students were dependent on a volunteer to read the books. Now, the software will take care of this aspect.

The Talking Typing Teacher Pro software will provide tutorials with complete guidance and practice sessions, and another software JAWS Pro will convert the normal PC into a talking PC so that the visually impaired people can operate it with ease.

The centre has been set up with a grant of Rs. 2 million from the Tata Trust and will be equipped with 20 Pentium computers. IANS
