New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has informed that it will conduct Medical Entrance Examination in 2012, only for 15% all India quota undergraduate seats.
The preliminary examination will be conducted on April 1 and the final examination will take place on May 13.
However, under the prevailing circumstances, it seems that neither the undergraduate nor the postgraduate exam for medical admissions may take place next year.
The Health Ministry had submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court (SC) due to the resistance from some states.
Besides, Dr KK Talwar, Chairman of the Medical Council of India (MCI) board informed they have filed an affidavit in the SC, urging for the PG test to be put on hold.
AIIMS was asked to hold the exam for 50% medical seats but as due to some staff issues; it might be unable to conduct the entrance. MCI does not have an examination cell and CBSE has refused.
The medical entrance test was supposed to be conducted in Jan-Feb. 2012. The above mentioned issues ought to be sorted out if the test should take place.
For the time being, the National Board of Examinations can be asked to conduct the exam or AIIMS should be provided with extra staff to hold the test.
However, MCI sources depict that the affidavit of states for putting undergraduate test on hold, has not been formally conveyed to the council.
