'Chak De' girl Kimi fails in hockey diploma exam

Patiala: Chak De India!, starring bollywood king Shahrukh Khan, with a gritty women's hockey team that overcomes odds and goes on to win the world championships, may have scored several hits across the county's theatres.

However, Mizoram goalkeeper Kimi Laldawla, who played the role of Mary Ralte in the blockbuster movie, failed in the Diploma in Hockey examinations conducted at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) here.

After completing the movie, Kimi joined the diploma course with help from the Mizoram Government.

'Chak De! India' won several awards including Filmfare awards, Star Screen awards and a Billie Award; but Kimi did not attend any of these awards ceremonies in order to pursue her studies at the NIS.

Kimi said though she has several film offers from reputed directors, she would try her best to become a hockey coach.

The Mizoram player plans to appear in the supplementary examinations to be held here in the month of September, later this year.

Last year, the Aryans Business School (ABS), about 20 kilometres from Chandigarh, with an aim to teach aspiring management students some business skills through the film, had decided to make "Chak De! India", a part of its Master of Business Administration (MBA) curriculum.
