Govt schools in Puducherry to get new buildings

Puducherry: The Education Department of Puducherry has decided to allot new buildings to thirteen Government schools in the region.

The construction of the new school buildings was taken up at a cost of Rs.13 crores. Inauguration of the buildings will be done in a phased manner, said an official.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy inaugurated a school building for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Government High School in Periyar Nagar on Thursday.

He said that all Government schools would be provided with the necessary infrastructure, including space for playgrounds.

The new building, constructed at a cost of Rs.32 lakh, has four classrooms and a laboratory. Besides the regular lavatories for staff and students, a special toilet for the physically challenged has also been constructed.

Education Minister M.O.H.F Shajahan said that the Government aimed at the overall development of students.

It was with this perspective in mind that the Department had introduced the 'Smart School' concept, where students learn from each other through interaction.

He mentioned that IT giant Wipro was in touch with the Government to formulate new learning methods for Government school students.
