Punjab: Three Government medical colleges in Punjab have begun admissions to graduate courses in medicine and dentistry without an approval from the Medical Council of India (MCI).
The MCI had sent an inspection team to check the medical colleges in the state and the reports from these medical colleges have still not been okayed by MCI authorities.
College authorities have claimed that the MCI had asked to rectify their deficiencies, which surfaced during the inspection, within a period of two to three months.
"Atleast 18 out of the 22 deficiencies pointed out by MCI have been rectified", said a senior doctor from Faridkot Medical College.
"Our college is only facing some faculty shortage, but this is not a serious concern as several doctors have already joined the institute and some others are likely to join soon", Jagdish Gargi, Principal of Government Medical College at Amritsar said.
