Punjab varsity VC to lead delegation to Italy

Ludhiana: Vice-Chancellor of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, will lead a 15-member high-level Indian delegation to Italy that comprises of eminent professors, scholars and researchers from leading Indian universities and research centres.

A meeting of the delegation is scheduled on December 15 with high level officials of the Campania region, eminent Italian scholars and researchers.

The meeting will be on the theme - 'Scientific Cooperation between India and Italy'.

Dr. Kang will deliberate on the progress made in India in diverse scientific fields since its independence and will discuss the role of PAU in nation building especially through making India food sufficient.

The delegation will recognize areas including pollution control, global warming, maintenance and preservation of cultural/ archaeological heritage and restoration technologies, bio-technology, information and communication technology, food production and processing, electronics, telecommunication and computer sciences, energy and environmental science, material science and technology, etc.

It will also suggest the establishment of working groups in identified areas. The meeting will be held at the Naples town of Italy from December 14-17, 2008.

"Cooperation instead of competition is a sure way of progress. There are many fields in which India and Italy could cooperate in mutually beneficial areas", Dr. Kang said.
