Student council president at PU to be member of senate
Chandigarh: The Panjab University, in a written petition to the Chancellor's office, has sought an immediate permission to make the Student Council’s president, an ex-officio member of the Senate.

The Chancellor, in front of the UGC-fund deficit committee visiting Panjab University, claimed that the recommendation had been made to increase student participation in decision-making process, made the revelation.

"It has been a long deferred move taken by the administration. The students wanted a platform to have their say in the matters which related them. After confirming all the details, everything for the approval of the Chancellor has been sent," said a PU official.

It may be noted in the last year, members of SOPU had spearheaded this cause by protesting in front of the Senate.

"This is a remarkable decision which will bring a change in the very facet of student leadership in the varsity. There was a gap between the student's demands and what was provided to them, which is now likely to be filled. With Student Council president entering the senate, the university students will gain an all-new strength and importance and it will also help us to meet student's expectations," concluded senator Dayal Pratap Singh Randhawa.
