Chennai to commence 120 colleges

Chennai: In the coming academic year the state is all set to commence 120 more colleges along with nearly 400 colleges being opened across the country, All India Council of Technical Education member secretary K. Narayana Rao informed.

In a recent convocation held in the city, Mr. Rao gave a clean chit to 33 colleges running in the state which were accused of charging excess fees from the students stating that, "There is no case against the 33 colleges. A meeting was held last month regarding this. All the fees received by them were accounted for and prima facie there is no violation of any rule".

However, he also added that the Tamil Nadu Government and the Directorate of Technical Education had carried out surprise alert checks on the presently running colleges in the state, increasing the drive against accumulation of capitation fee and tuition fee over and above what had been set by the authorities.
